TpT Store "Quote" GIF Tutorial

I am so excited that I figured this out! So you've probably seen that lots of people's TpT Storefronts now have a picture where the quote was previously. Well, I was determined to figure out how to have a GIF (or changing image file) in that spot. Keep reading to see how I did it.

I created mine using MS PowerPoint, http://gifmaker.me/, and the URL shortener https://goo.gl/.

Create your slides and then save them as PNG or JPG images. Here are mine. I just made 2 for this example:

Next, I upload my images into a GIF Maker. I changed the Canvas Size to 300 x 100px, and the animation speed to 1100 miliseconds. Play around with these until you decide how you like it.
Load your images and then click the black button that says "Create GIF animation." This will pop up in a new tab. Click "View the high quality version of this animation." If you like what you see then you can go back and download your GIF (black button on bottom).
Next you need to publish your GIF somewhere online. You can use your blog, Pinterest, or somewhere else that you have the ability to edit. On Pinterest I pin it to a secret board and this still works perfectly.
Once it is published you will right-click on the image and choose Copy URL. From here you need to shorten the URL. Try out google's URL shortener. I like it because you can track the clicks. I use it for my Facebook posts and freebie google docs.

You also need a shortened URL for the product or category that you want your GIF to be linked to. Now it is time to set up the HTML code that you will put into your "quote" section of your store profile. Your HTML needs to look like this: <a href=“ShortenedLinkToProduct"><img src=“ShortenedGIFLink"></a>

Go to the "My Account" page and into "Store Profile." Scroll to the bottom and click the edit button. Take out whatever is in your quote section and copy and paste the code you just made. Click save and admire your work!
I don't know about you, but I am so excited about the possibilities with this feature. The ultimate product promotion spot, another pop of color, perfect way to advertise sales, and so much more. What will you do with yours?

  5. Thank you so much, Brittany! This was a fantastic tutorial.

Quick thing: I found that making the canvas size be 450px by 150px in GIFMaker works best for sizing on your store.

  6. Hi Brittany! I have been working on this and have gotten pretty far but my GIF keeps getting to the third slide and stopping! Any idea? Did you ever have this same issue? Thanks for the tutorial!

    1. Hmm that sound frustrating. How many slides long is it and where did you store it? Does it ever play through the whole thing or only in your store? Just some questions to think through while you're troubleshooting. Good luck!

  7. Hi there! Thank you for creating this for us! I'm following each step but when I save the code to my quote box it's showing a blue square with a question mark inside. I've tried many things with no luck. Is there something I'm missing that's an easy fix? Sorry and thank you again so much!

    1. Hi Jeanie, I've never seen that happen before. Perhaps TpT was having a glitch. Did you try again today yet?

    2. I've been trying. I think I could be doing something wrong. Maybe the GIF. Once I download it and it shows up on my desktop (sorry to ask) what do I do with it from there? I'm on a MAC. I have saved it to my desktop, uploaded it to a private Pinterest page then right click, copy image and paste it to get a shorter link. Is this where I could be messing up. I can still see it in Pinterest and it works and looks just fine. So sorry to ask but I've looked at the code over and over to make sure I'm not missing anything either. Thanks for helping on a Holiday too.

    3. So sorry I didn't see this comment sooner. Ok you don't want to "copy image" you want to "copy image URL." Try that and see if it makes the difference.

    1. Yay! Ok this is fixable, but you may have to play around with it. Your "stuff" that you put into the TpT field has some numbers in it- the pixels. You will want to increase those numbers (but be sure to keep the ratio the same. Like if you double one number, double the other). Keep adjusting them until you find a size that you like. Good luck!

  9. Did you know you can shorten your links with AdFly and receive money from every click on your short links.
